Damaged Books

Students are responsible for keeping textbooks issued to them in good condition. Students should check textbooks carefully for damages at the time of issuance and report any damage or problems to library staff within one week of check-out. After this time, the student is responsible for any damage and a fine may be assessed. Under California Ed Code Section 49014 (g) (1), students are responsible for the replacement or damage cost of school district books or property loaned that the student fails to return or that are willfully cut, defaced, or otherwise injured. Fines for repair are assessed when books are returned with damages. Books that are returned with stains, mildew, mold or water damage will be obsoleted as a total loss and full replacement price of the book will be charged. Textbooks returned after the end of the semester in which they are due may incur a late charge. Fines will be assessed for the following textbook damages:

  • Missing or defaced barcode
  • Writing or highlighting on the pages of the book
  • Broken binding
  • Missing or torn pages
  • Cover damage or excessive wear based on age of textbook
  • Water damage, mold or mildew

Lost Books

Students are responsible for paying the replacement cost of all lost books. Books purchased new or used from another source (i.e. Amazon) will not be accepted as a replacement for the original book. Students should contact the Media Center staff as soon as they realize a book is lost so that we can check to see if it has been returned.

Book Covers

Students should cover textbooks to protect them from damage. Grocery store paper bags are perfect for this and offer the best protection. Do not use sticky, stretchy or adhesive covers on books. These types of covers damage the outside of the book and binding and a rebinding fine will be charged.

Devices are to be used for educational purposes,

Repeated incorrect usage of CB causes damage

A Chromebook is not a pizza box and should not be opened to the point it is completely flat ---> it will eventually break the hinge (repairs = $$)

“The Board of Education (Board) intends that technological resources provided by the District (District Technology) be used in a safe and responsible manner in support of the instructional program and for the advancement of student learning.”

Student is responsible for any damage, even accidental.  We highly recommend insurance and case.

Insurance is purchased through myschoolbucks.com for $20

Here is a very helpful link that explains how to purchase insurance

Why should I purchase insurance?

Any damage, even accidental, is the student’s responsibility.  The insurance covers a student for an entire year (over multiple devices), and includes summer

IUSD Account Info:

Username:

Year of High School Graduation + First 8 Letters of Last Name + First 8 Letters of First Name →

Examples:

A student named Lebron James who is going to graduate high school in 2025 would be 25JamesLebron.

A student named Antidisestablishmentarianism Loongname who is going to graduate high school in 2028 would be 28LoongnamAntidise

Password:

9 digit student ID when enrolled; reset to 9 digit ID each year.

The STRONG recommendation is to change your password as soon as you log in for the first time, as that ID number is not a secure password.

Your password is the same for most IUSD resources, as noted below - it will be called IUSD PW

How to Change Your Password

  1. Go to http://identity.iusd.org
  2. Enter your current username and password
  3. Follow the steps in this tutorial.

*When sending a helpdesk ticket, please include the student’s legal first and legal name, student ID number, the device ID number (the barcode affixed to the front of the device) and a brief description of the issue.  Ideally, the student will use their IUSD email address to send the ticket so that our PC services team can reply promptly directly to the student.

Device Polices

  • Bring your device, fully charged, every day!
  • There is a charging cart in the library - students should put their name on a post-it affixed to the device before charging.
  • Device exchanges will not be done during class time - if needed, you must exchange your device during snack or lunch.
  • Every classroom has loaner devices for students to use at the teachers’ discretion.  There are no loaners available from the library.
  • Please, don’t add any stickers to the device and leave the current labels (barcode and device name) in good shape.
