Global Day of Play

Research on learning highlights the importance of the social context of learning. The content of what is learned is closely connected to how it is learned and used. How we learn from others is directly related to the tone, culture, and structure of our social environment. Developmentally, play is an essential aspect of child development. Piaget discusses the social, emotional, and cognitive value of play; and most therapy sessions with children are play based.
We recognize that over 50% of our students are new this year and 10% have started school after our school year began. We’ve focused quite a bit of our efforts this year to develop positive relationships among students. In an effort to continue community building in our classes and school, as well as developing well-rounded students; we will participate in Global Play Day on February 7th. The focus of Play Day is for students to engage socially and physically, and develop social and problem solving skills with peers. Grade levels have begun to collect toys and games and establish various venues for their students and grade levels. Below are a couple of web resources regarding Global Play Day and the value of play
